A dated single-vanity bathroom with an unused oval tub, rebuilt into a backlit double vanity and a frameless walk-in shower.
This Mission Viejo primary suite hadn't been touched since the home was built. The vanity wall carried a single sink, a cultured-marble top, pickled-oak cabinets, and a boxed fluorescent light — with carpet underfoot. Across the room, a corner oval tub framed by mini-blinds ate up the footprint and rarely got used.
We took the room down to the studs and rebuilt it as one cohesive suite: a wide backlit double vanity on one wall, and a full frameless walk-in shower where the tub used to be. The result is a calmer, brighter, far more functional bathroom that finally matches the rest of the home.

The original wall paired a cultured-marble top, a single sink, and pickled-oak cabinets under a boxed fluorescent light — with carpet running right up to the cabinet base. We rebuilt it as a wide double vanity in a warm walnut-tone shaker, topped with a quartz surface and undermount basins, lit by two backlit LED mirrors and recessed ceiling cans.

A corner drop-in tub framed by mini-blinds dominated the room and went mostly unused. We converted it into a generously sized walk-in shower wrapped in wood-look porcelain, with a hexagon-mosaic floor for slip resistance, a built-in bench, a recessed niche, and a frameless glass enclosure that keeps the room feeling open and light.

In a primary suite where the tub is rarely used, a walk-in shower almost always improves daily function and the feel of the room — as it did here in Mission Viejo. The main consideration is resale: if it is the only tub in the home, keeping a tub somewhere in the house is usually wise. We review the full home before recommending a conversion.
A complete gut remodel of a primary bathroom typically runs about 4 to 7 weeks once design, materials, and permits are settled. The timeline depends on plumbing relocation, waterproofing, tile complexity, glass fabrication lead time, and vanity and mirror delivery.
Large-format wood-look porcelain gives the warmth of timber with the moisture performance of tile. It resists water, is easy to maintain, and pairs well with a slip-resistant hexagon mosaic on the shower floor — the combination used in this project.
